The process of creating the bare boards that will serve as the groundwork for printed circuit board arrangement is known as PCB fabrication.
The majority of printed circuit boards are made out of non-conductive substrate materials and are constructed in the form of flat laminated composites. Layers of copper circuitry may be laid down to rest either within or on the surface of the printed circuit board (PCB).

The term "prepreg" refers to a thin glass fabric that has been coated in resin before being cured in composite material treaters, which are essentially specialized computers. Glass serves as the mechanical substrate that keeps the resin in place at its intended position. The liquid resin, which is commonly FR4 epoxy, polyimide, Teflon, or another substance, is first placed onto the cloth and allowed to dry. During the process of moving through to the treater, the prepreg has to go through a phase in which it is dried in an oven. When it emerges out of the treater, it has an extraordinarily high degree of dryness.
When prepreg is subjected to temperatures more than 300 degrees Fahrenheit, the resin begins to weaken and eventually melts. When the resin in the prepreg begins to melt, it will eventually reach a stage (called thermosetting) where it will re-harden to the point where it will be exceedingly stiff and robust. Prepreg and laminate are often relatively light in weight, even though they are strong. Prepreg sheets, which are commonly referred to as fiberglass, are used in the production of many different types of goods, including golf clubs, airplanes, yachts, and blades for wind turbines. However, it is also very important in the production of PCBs. Both the process of gluing the PCB together and the construction of the laminate, the second component of a PCB, require the usage of prepreg sheets.
Laminates, also known as copper-clad laminates, are constructed composed of sheets of prepreg that are bonded together using temperature and force, with sheets of copper foil on each side of the laminate. Laminates are also known as sandwich laminates. After the resin has hardened, PCB laminates are quite similar to plastic composites. There are sheets of copper foil on both sides of the laminate.
