The Mysore Education Society started Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMC&RI) as a Private Medical College in 1955. In 1957, the medical college was handed over to the then Government of Mysore and was affiliated to University of Mysore. It was later handed over to the Government of Karnataka and was affiliated to the Bangalore University. After the formation of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) in Bangalore, the medical college has been affiliated to this University from 1997.

Undergraduate Medical Course:

The undergraduate medical course offered in Bangalore Medical College is Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). The duration of this course is 4 ½ years followed by one-year internship. Every year, 250 students are admitted to MBBS course in this college.
