Abstract

The main focus of the article is Hernia. This article includes information such as what is Hernia, types of hernia, how it develops, symptoms, complications, preventive measures. It is a bulging of tissue or organ through a feeble position in the body. Hernia causes pain in the abdomen and mostly occurs in between the stomach, hips, and thigh. So, it needs to take proper medication and also take precautionary steps to prevent it. We will also infer certain natural remedies that are provided by planet Ayurveda to manage hernia.

What is Hernia?

A hernia is a weak spot of the abdominal wall through which fatty tissue or organs, such as intestinal loops, exit. This leads to the formation of a noticeable subcutaneous bulge, and the pressure of the tissues exiting through the weak points of the abdominal wall causes intense pain and discomfort.

Visually, a hernia of the abdomen looks like a tumor with smooth contours and intact skin. A hernia usually has inconsistent dimensions: it increases in an upright position, when coughing, sneezing, straining, lifting weights, and decreases in a lying position. Sometimes the hernia can be adjusted back on its own. But after a while, it appears again.

Types of Hernia

Components of any Hernia

  1. Hernial contents - an organ or part of it, tissue emerging through the hernial gate.
  2. Hernia gate - an opening or channel through which organs exit.
  3. Hernial sac and sheath. The bag directly covers the contents, acting as a container for it. The membranes can consist of skin, fascia (these are the connective tissue membranes that cover organs, vessels, nerves), scar tissue.

What are the Types of Hernia?

So after discussing What the Hernia is the next question arises what are the types of Hernia. Here we will explore the most common type of Hernia:-

1. Umbilical Hernia

Umbilical hernia is most common in babies. Usually, it develops after six months when the child begins to sit and actively move, thereby straining and strengthening the abdominal walls. But if it occurs in children much later, then you need to see a doctor. The disease can appear with frequent constipation, lack of activity, or persistent coughing. If a child complains of pain in the navel and has protrusions in the same place in a standing position, then this is a sure sign of an umbilical hernia. Also, the child may become lethargic, his appetite decreases, and apathy occurs.

2. Inguinal Hernia

It is more common in men and also in boys, especially in infancy. Symptoms are protrusions in the corresponding area, an increase in the scrotum, pain in the lower back, genitals, and when urinating.

3. Femoral Hernia

When the intestine enters the canal carrying the femoral artery into the upper leg, leads to the occurrence of femoral hernia. This hernia is common in women, especially those who are obese or pregnant.

You may be at increased risk of developing a hernia if you

  • Sneeze frequently, for example, due to allergies.
  • Are overweight.
  • Often strain while lifting weights.
  • The weakening of the anterior abdominal wall, which occurs during pregnancy, after childbirth in women or in people with inactive lives;
  • A sharp increase in pressure in the abdomen, for example, when a person lifts weights or strains while using the toilet. Push frequently when defecating or urinating.
  • Chronic cough or allergies, accompanied by frequent cough.

A risk of Hernia can be increased with a person's age, recent trauma, or surgery that weakens muscles. Of course, a hernia can also be hereditary, than varicose veins, scoliosis, and even flat feet are the cause.

Symptoms of Hernia

All hernias are different from each other, and hernia symptoms may develop gradually or suddenly. The severity of pain is different. Some patients even experience a sensation of tearing or something coming out.

The surest sign of the manifestation of the disease is unusual protrusions in the abdominal region. A bulge may appear in the groin, in the navel, or in the area of a scar if you have recently had surgery. It all depends on the type of hernia.

But not only externally, one can suspect a disease, with symptoms such as pain in the abdomen and groin during prolonged standing, during physical exertion, and when lifting weights serve as symptoms. A person observes pain when sneezing, coughing, and straining.

  • The groin or scrotum is protruding.
  • Something is touched in the groin or scrotum.
  • If you touch the protruding area, it is soft.
  • In many cases, there is no pain even if you touch the hernia area with your hands.
  • When you apply strength to the stomach, the protruding part becomes hard and clear.
  • If you lie down or lose strength, the protruding part may disappear.
  • If the hernia has descended to the scrotum, one of the scrota may look larger.
  • There are discomfort, mild pain, and heavy sensations in the groin.
The hernia area may grow larger over time.
  • If the organ is stuck in the hernia hole and blood circulation is not possible, you will feel nauseous with pain and vomit.

Possible Complications of Hernias

If we talk about the danger of a hernia, then its main complication is infringement - compression of the protruding intestinal loop by the valves of the hernial gate. Such an infringement is fraught with a violation of the blood supply to the intestinal area. And if it lasts for a long time, then the necrosis of the intestinal loop can occur.

Infringement can occur not only on an old hernia but also on a recently appeared one. As a rule, this happens with some kind of physical stress, during which the bowel loop can jump out and immediately restrained.

An impaired protrusion manifests itself as an unexpected sharp pain, hardening and soreness of a protrusion that cannot be adjusted back. Such consequences of a hernia require immediate surgical intervention within a few hours.

How can a Hernia be Prevented?

There is no method to prevent hernias. Any person can develop a hernia. The best thing you can do to prevent a hernia is to live a healthy lifestyle

  • Eat properly- This will prevent the development of constipation, which causes the bowel to stretch. In addition, eating well will keep your muscles healthy.
  • Do not smoke- If you smoke, quit. Nicotine causes the abdominal wall to lax, which can lead to a hernia. Chronic coughing due to lung irritation increases your risk of developing a hernia. Chronic cough also increases the risk of recurrent hernias.
  • Physical activity- Engage in moderate physical activity regularly to tone the abdominal muscles.
  • Weight- maintain a healthy weight. If you are overweight, try to lose weight to reduce the stress on your abdominal muscles.
  • Heavy Object-use the correct lifting technique, do not lift too heavy objects.

How to Identify a Hernia?

Instrumental methods of examination include a method such as diaphanoscopy, which is used to distinguish scrotal hernia from dropsy.

Physical examination methods: the doctor, after examining the protrusion, palpates it. Another method of examination is an ultrasound examination.

Why is Hernia Dangerous?

One of the most common complications of a hernia is infringement. In this case, the hernial contents are compressed with a violation of the blood supply and the subsequent development of necrosis of the restrained organ. The patient develops a pronounced pain syndrome, the hernial protrusion becomes dense, sharply painful. This condition is life-threatening and requires immediate surgery.

A Hernia is not generally life-threatening, although it won't go away on its own. So Planet Ayurveda is here to help you by providing some Herbal Treatment to Manage Hernia effectively.
