It has become essential in this fast paced world to discover ways to create a calm, centered place within. As a psychotherapist specializing in hypnotherapy, the most powerful technique I know to relieve stress is to spend 20-30 minutes daily in hypnosis. Which leads into a brief description of what hypnotic trance really is. Hypnosis, very simply put, is a very relaxed yet focused state of mind. Those who meditate may already know that the trance state created in meditation is the same as the trance state created during hypnosis. The difference between the two is that hypnosis has a goal attached. People worry about being out of control when they are hypnotized and this is not true. One is in complete control and no one can be hypnotized against her will. the hypnotherapist does not "put you into a trance' but guides the client into a very relaxed state of mind. In addition, hypnosis is a naturally occurring phenomena, for example, we all experience hypnosis while daydreaming, engrossed in a good novel, play or movie, or when we pass in and out of this state as we fall asleep and wake up.

A myriad of benefits arise from being in the hypnotic state. For example, just 15 minutes of hypnosis is equivalent to one hour of deep restful sleep. It is also a centering and grounding process as well as increasing the production of the neurotransmitter serotonin. Serotonin is the feel good chemical that promotes feelings of well-being , safety, security and happiness. It also promotes sound restful sleep and increased concentration and memory.

As the client relaxes deeply, the critical factor of the mind is set aside so that one can focus deeply on the healing suggestions. Hypnosis is a very subtle tool. It works by changing attitudes, beliefs, habits and perceptions. Whether experiencing a trance sate during private sessions or while listening at home to hypnotic recordings , one begins to create an inner place of healing. This healing place is one you can return to at any time to find your deepest resources and strengths. As this occurs, you begin to relax into life, to easily cope with the ups and downs that are part of normal life.

Through the proper use of hypnosis, one can promote feelings of well-being, achieve goals, release negative thoughts, experiences , or beliefs from the past so that they no longer have power over one's life in the present. When we experience hypnosis , we are being guided within to a journey of self-discovery and healing. As we create this inner place of healing, we also begin to create an external life filled with peace, serenity and harmony.
