Take a moment to think of the obstacles that stand in the way of your goals that you’re trying to accomplish. There were probably some very surface level things that took just seconds for you to identify. For instance, if you’re trying to lose weight, all of the unhealthy foods and situations that could make you stop dieting are an obvious factor that gets in the way of your progress.

Those tangible examples and scenarios should always be on your mind, but you need to think deeper still about how time can be your greatest asset or your greatest downfall.

If you ever failed to work toward your goal or the task at hand, you’re likely to identify those surface level things again. You determine that you couldn’t keep your weight down because you rediscovered just how good brisket tasted at your friend’s barbecue, or that exercise was simply too unbearable to commit to 5 days a week.

You have to go further than that. If you fail at achieving your goal, it’s because you didn’t dedicate enough time to properly focus and approach the goal. You didn’t take the time to exercise, you didn’t take the time to prepare healthier options for yourself, you didn’t take the time to strategize what to do to stave off temptation from unhealthy foods.

Of course, we all have things that we must commit to throughout the day, but we have to take the time to do the most with the spare time we have. Bit by bit, the seemingly innocuous things we do that aren’t driven towards a successful day build up a wall of stalled progress that makes us think we don’t have the time and/or resources to accomplish what we want in life.

Let’s dig a little deeper and talk about some time management components that are heavily associated with failed goals.

Indecision

"Initiating thought process is a great thing when approaching your goals until it turns into indecision. When stewing on decisions, it’s always best to think about what can get you closer to your goal right now. Making the simplest of choices can often be tough, but making no choice at all leads to no personal growth. Don’t let so much time pass that productivity doesn’t become an option anymore. Take enough time to educate yourself on the best approach and act on what you feel is best," said a spokesperson for a Minnesota trade show exhibit design company.

Procrastination

Sometimes we’re so offput by the intimidation factor of a goal that tries our best to avoid it completely. We’ve all procrastinated, and we’ve all eventually had the feeling of satisfaction of getting something done. Wouldn’t it feel better if you approached these intimidating goals and responsibilities with a deliberate effort to accomplish them before the final hour?

We’ve covered how time can be your greatest asset or your greatest downfall. If you accomplish your goals and don’t procrastinate, time can be your reward. The time you would have spent fretting and delaying your progress is now FREE. Perhaps you can use this time to become a machine of productivity, or you can celebrate knowing you won the day by doing something you enjoy. It’s through hard work and a proper use of time that opens up possibilities.

Distractions

There are an infinite amount of distractions that get in the way of accomplishing your goals. Whether a distraction takes you away for a minute or an hour, all of the time spent not towards your mission adds up. A good use of your time is to prognosticate these distractions to turn them into non-factors when they arise. You may still fall into these traps, but if you keep reminding yourself that you’re wasting time, you can adjust back to a focused mindset.

When you dedicate the time to propel yourself towards a goal, you’ll unleash so much of the potential you didn’t know you had. Spend time making a genuine effort to succeed and doing what makes you, or will make you happy, even if it’s a little tough at first. Don’t let these subtle barriers work their way in, approach your goals with all the determination you have.
