Lifestyle and Home Remedies for Diabetic Neuropathy

Turmeric – Turmeric is the one of one most used spice in Indian kitchens. It is considered as the effective home remedy for the treatment of diabetic neuropathy.  Use of this spice is known to be quite effective in patients who are suffering from neuropathic pain in diabetes. Cur cumin present in turmeric is loaded with anti-inflammatory properties. It helps to provide the relief in symptoms like tingling, numbness and pain in hands, feet, neck or shoulders. Moreover turmeric also helps to lower the blood sugar levels in body.

How to consume

  • Take half - 1teaspoonful of turmeric along with low fat milk.
  • Take it twice daily for better results.

Wheat grass juice:

Wheatgrass is packed with iron calcium, magnesium, vitamins A, C, K, E and B-complex, selenium and amino acids. Wheatgrass juice is very useful to manage the problem of diabetic neuropathy. It helps in oxygenation and provides the blood supply to damaged tissues. It also helps in the repair of damaged nerves in diabetic neuropathy.

How to consume:

  • Take 1teaspoonful of wheatgrass powder with water twice in day.
  • Alternatively   one can prepare the fresh wheatgrass juice. Consuming the 10-15 ml of this juice twice daily is quite good in diabetic neuropathy.

Indian Gooseberry (amla) – It is commonly named as amla and is a rich source of vitamin C which helps to promote the functioning of pancreas.  So consumption of amla juice is fruitful to lower the blood sugar levels in diabetes. Being a rich source of antioxidants it helps to manage the diabetic neuropathy symptoms also.

Directions to use:

  • One can take the 10-15 ml amla juice two times in day.
  • Alternatively one can mix one tablespoon of Indian gooseberry juice in a cup of bitter gourd juice. Consume it every day for best results.

Fenugreek – Fenugreek (methi) is used as a spice in Indian kitchen and is an effective home remedy for treatment of diabetic neuropathy.  Hypoglycemic activity helps to decrease the blood sugar levels. Being rich in fibers, it aids to slow down the absorption of sugars and carbohydrates from foods. Moreover anti-inflammatory activity of fenugreek seeds helps to reduce the shooting pains in arms, feet and shoulders in diabetic neuropathy.

How to consume

  • Soak the fenugreek seeds overnight and consumes it along with water.
  • Consume it two times daily until you observe the noticeable change.

Flax seeds (Alsi) – Flax seeds are also one of useful home remedy for the treatment of diabetic neuropathy. They are rich source of fibers and helps to absorb sugar and carbohydrates from blood.

Directions to use:

  • Take one tablespoon of flaxseed powder with a glass of warm water or low   fat milk twice in a day.
  • Do it regularly two times in day.

  • Cut down on sugar.
  • Avoid smoking.
  • Avoid alcohol.
  • Avoid artificial sweeteners.
  • Avoid processed and junk food.
  • Eat vegetables like broccoli, leafy greens, cauliflower, asparagus and carrots. Cut down on starchy vegetables like corn and potatoes.
