PASSIVE PEOPLE

Some people think and analyze a lot and act little. Others, however, without so much thought, are more prone to action. The firsts tend to be passive, the seconds, active. The activity-passivity as a way of being, is very related with our hormonal map.

THE PASSIVITY

Mrs. T. accompanies each morning her daughter to take the subway. Then she sits on a bench and wait there for the return of the young student. So goes all morning. She is a housewife and would have to do some pending works but she thinks that everything can wait. Moreover, in the life of Mrs. T. have not appeared interests that move to her to occupy her time of another way or that carry her to consider that there is something more interesting than remain seated there. She neither is thinking, she simply is. Mrs. T. is a remarkably passive person.
The too passive people will leave their duties without making, they do no have the initial emotion that is the one what ultimately moves us always and this constitutes a problem.
The moderate passive people meet their obligations, but beyond that, does not feel the need to be constantly doing something, are also given to fantasize, think, read or watch TV. These activities are more in line with their way of being. Their energy seems limited and not so easily are replenished of fatigue; some even fail to recover strengths neither with sleep and wake sometimes in the morning still tired.

ACTIVE PEOPLE

If Mrs. T. had been an active person would have used every moment of the morning, both to fulfill their obligations to dedicate to many activities that she really would have enjoy.
Active people always find a reason or an excuse to do something. They enjoy doing things and always find them motivated to start any activity. If they arrive to fatigue, a short break, or perhaps, the nocturnal dream, leaves them again fresh and ready. Active people seem to have a boundless energy. For the active, the action already is an objective in itself because the action
provides them pleasure.

ACTIVITY-PASSIVITY = AN IMPORTANT INDICATOR

Nobody is located in the absolute, anybody is fully active or passive: it is a trend: he/she is more active than passive or vice versa.
Moreover, it is easy to see that people with a lot of inner life tend to be passive. These people compensate the shortage of action with the plenty of fantasies.
The active is superior to passive. The active correlates positively with physical and mental balance.
To depressed person is recommended to do exercise, move. The depression leaves you unmotivated and apathetic. The action is only compatible with a good mood.
So you can access to the good mood through action. The day that the depressed recovers the desire to do things, that day is cured.

The extreme usually is vicious ("In medio virtus. ") If the active is excessive we will have fallen in other unbalanced and disharmony behavior ... The person who acts only for acting, with a significant lack of reflection, who moves only by the emotion ... will be a inconstant person, will be amid all sauces but never will know exactly why he/she it does, because he/she simply does it, without having clear the objectives: the action has become an objective in itself. If you make an appointment with he/she for tomorrow, will not present, because in the meantime will change of plans ... His long-term vital projects lose affectivity, direction and sense. It would be better for her to put some more reflection in his life and somewhat less activity.

PROCRASTINATION

When passivity is high we can talk about procrastination. Procrastinate - almost unused word - means delay or postpone and the procrastinator is who constantly delay the works. The procrastinator is limited to take what the life gives him and he/she no strives to improve his situation if this involves some effort: he/she will eat raw before cooking, will peel the orange with his teeth before rising to take a knife, will wear clothing closest before seeking another better, only will use inherited technology before investigating. The procrastinator delay his obligations until the last minute. He always has some excuse to delay and tasks are piling up on his desk:
---- "Look how much work I have" ----, tells to his mates of the office, while points to the piles of papers on his desk ..., until someone replaces him and then the piles of papers quickly disappear.
When the procrastinator gets to work, get tired quickly: lacks energy to him, lacks motivation to him and with these lacks is very difficult to meet.
In the worst situation, the great procrastinator does not meet their obligations and then we are in front of a major problem of integration: in our society there is no place for these people ...
The procrastinator's fundamental flaw is the lack of motivation because without motivation there is no action. Against this there is no psychological therapy, neither cognitive neither directive ..., this is a deadlock...
The solution must come from a change in hormonal map of the person, with a re-balance in the cortisol and testosterone, in the amygdala and frontal cortex, in Growth Hormone and catecholamines ...

NUANCES OF PASSIVITY

According to the school of Heymans-Le Senne the passive people:
--- They are slow to make decisions
--- In their free hours read or watch TV
--- They do not are involved in extraneous incidents
--- They usually have fatigability
--- They do not become obsessed with the results
--- They do not usually bother to investigate
--- Their ideas remain in ideas, do not become facts.

The School of Heymans-Le Senne classifies all people from their activity and sets 4 classes of passive people:
1) The passive, emotional without resonance (1). The Nervous. Restless people.
In their relations with others spontaneously adapts. He worry about the opinions of others. Inconstant. Has contradictions. Spends easily from joy to sadness. Impulsive. Longing emotions. Moody. Strong but fleeting emotions. They are inconstant people.

2) The passive, emotional with resonance. The sentimental, the thoughtful people.
People attached to the past. They are easy for criticism. Fragile. Looking for privacy. Tendency to shyness and the obsessiveness. Overflowing imagination. Given little to the pleasures. With low external action and plenty of inner life. Imaginative and constant people.

3) The passive, no emotional without resonance. Lymphatics. Indifferent to their surroundings. Unimaginative. Not interested neither in past neither in the future. Is guided and commanded.

4) The passive, no emotional with resonance. Apathetic. Attachment to their opinions, once adopted. Power of inhibition. He loves the quiet, monotonous and independent life. Stubborn. Rancorous, difficult for the reconciliation. Ususally does not collaborate with projects of others. Enclosed and shady people, with a tendency to depression. Attached to the past. Lives as anchored.

(1) RESONANCE: Tendency of emotions to remain long time.

COROLLARY

Somebody might think that passivity or procrastination should not be a problem in any case, that the apathy or laziness are simply a defect that is overcome by the exercise of virtue, something sporadic and reprehensible ..., that, in the worst cases and when the obligations are fulfilled, we could leave the procrastinator indulge his "dolce far niente" ..., but sometimes the reality is harsh: to the true procrastinator lacks resources that all has except them. Everyone agrees that the procrastinator is a vague, but it happens that they lack the physical energy and the vital motivation necessary to carry a life acceptable in our society. This is a group of "special" people, who will need help to, somehow, carry forward a life program that is at least acceptable.
