Fan those Curious Minds
Curiosity is the fuel for learning. Without curiosity, we have no desire to know or to learn about our surroundings or a given subject. Childhood is the stage when human beings are at their curious best. A child needs to know about everything and anything it sees or even imagines. Questions and more questions are how they communicate and learn. How we handle those queries sets the tone of how the child learns.

When facing a barrage of questions, parents have two options. The first is to sit down and answer them. The second is to pay no heed to them because either the questions are too silly or they are in no mood to answer. While the first option encourages them to learn and explore, the latter turns them off from learning due to obvious reasons. At times, regular or even harsh feedback towards a questioning attitude makes kids averse to learning.

Parents, naturally love the curiosity of their child. It just shows that their child is growing and learning. However, time constraints or a lack of knowledge on how to answer them so that they understand, at times put parents in a fix. Should we answer them straight away or just divert them or tell them we’ll talk about it later, are a few questions that run through a parent’s mind when answering their child’s query.

While parents are the first teachers for children, they, in turn, are thankful to the teachers in pre-schools who perhaps are more equipped on how to handle these curious minds. Pre-schools are now more popular than they were, say, a decade ago. The changes in the social and economic structure of the world have made pre-schools a necessity. And they sure are living up to the expectation.

Most of the pre-schools build their curriculum and daily time-table around the fact that kids are not just for learning but having fun while learning. They need to create an informal yet organized setup that lets kids explore and be curious in a natural way. Being with other curious kids sets the learning ball rolling where kids learn from each other as well. The fun approach to learning puts them on-track for further learning as kids get acquainted with formal education and are eager to go beyond learning.
