Believe it or not, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is effecting people in more ways than with purely physical symptoms. The downbeat feelings people are having right now are affecting us on unconscious levels. This is especially true if you are an empath. Fear of catching the virus, empty supermarkets, loss of work hours, closed restaurants, canceled concerts and a declining stock market all contribute to this unspoken emotional tizzy. If you for some unknown reason are feeling out of sorts and do not know why, then maybe you too are being affected by the dynamics that are going on around the globe.

We are all, on some level, emotionally impacted by what is going on but people who are empaths are highly sensitive to their surroundings. They tend to take on the feelings and emotions of others. Empaths have been described as psychic sponges where they absorb the emotional energy of others and their environment.

Why Would The Cornoavirus Affects Empaths More Intensely

Empaths, due to their highly sensitive nature, are more prone to picking up on the unsaid, unspoken emotions during challenging times, more so than their less sensitive counterpart. They absorb the fear, worry, uncertainty that others project onto the ethers and then unknowingly responding to it.

During this period of unrest, we are all a bit on edge. These feelings are magnified in empathic individuals. Sensations an empath may be experiencing can include a generalized sense of unease, feeling emotionally drained or completely exhausted. Empaths may find they are having a hard time staying focused, are experiencing increases anxiety or an overwhelming sense of dread for no apparent reason. They may feel as if they should be doing something, but are not sure of what that would be. Tied to the swirling energies they may sense inside, they may find it challenging to prioritize their activities and decide what to do next.

Additionally, highly sensitive people may also be experiencing physical symptoms tied to the uncomfortable energy on the planet. They may be plagued by unexplainable aches and pains or a shortness of breath. Their sleep cycles and sleep habits maybe be disrupted. Their inner circuitry, because of all of the free floating discord, may cause them to feel overloaded. They may find themselves angry, frustrated or quick to anger or they may be apathetic and want to curl up into a ball and hide.

If you have been finding your inner world a bit out of sorts, especially if you do not normally feel this way, then you might consider the fact that you are an empath and did not know it.

Being An Empath Is Natural.

This ability allows sensitive individuals to readily connect with the people around them. This capability, however, can have a downside. Empaths cannot choose which energies they absorb. In situations, like we are all facing right now, where everyone is affected, the intensity of discordant emotions are almost impossible for even the most well trained empath to shut out.

Regardless of if you are an empath or not, there are a number of things you can do to help lessen the effect of the madness flying around in the air.

Take Care Of Yourself

Supporting your physical body can help to ward off the severe effect of the cornavirus. Make sure you are eating well, drinking lots of water and getting plenty of sleep. Supplements such as vitamin C, elderberry and Echinacea can help support the function of the immune system. Oregano oil, olive leaf extract and garlic each have antiviral properties that may help to reduce the impact of the coronavirus if you are exposed.

Take A Health Inventory

The insecurity of this time can also put many people, not just empaths, into a cycle of intense worry. Take a moment and inventory what is going on in your life. Sometimes separating out what is true for you from the current mass hysteria can help. How is your overall health? Are you really at risk of death and dying?

It is important to remember, the people most at risk are individuals whose immune systems are compromised or have other underlying health conditions. And while not trying to minimize what is going on, the chance of dying from this disease according to the World Health Organization is about 2% of the infected population. Should you take precautions, yes. Should you freak out? Well, unless you are in a high risk category, probably not. Most healthy people, even if they are infected recover.

It’s Not Me

For empaths, it is also important to recognize that what you might be feeling inside may not be yours. Like taking a health inventory, do a personal inventory. Do you have food to eat? A place to live? Are you or someone you love at risk? If the answers to these questions are no, then perhaps what you are experiencing is coming from the world around you. While it might not eliminate everything you are feeling, at least you can begin to recognize it for what it is. You are reacting to the energy on the planet.

Take A Hot Bath

There are other things that can help support your mental and emotional health, empath or not. Historically speaking, taking a hot bath, especially one with Epsom salts, helps to relax the body. It can also help reduce aches and pains. Baths are also a great way to help the body discharge emotional energies it may be holding on to.

Find Some Quiet Time

Another way of lessening the amount of emotions you may have absorbed is to find some quiet time. Meditate, go for a walk outside, work in your garden, exercise or read a book. They are all great ways to naturally release unwanted energies that might be overloading your system. Any activity that engages you be it physically, mentally or spiritually will work.

Breathe

Most importantly, during this time, it is critical that we breathe. Danger, real or perceived, creates stress in the body. Our innate stress response causes us to shallow breathe or hold our breath. Stress can also negatively affect our immune system. When we breathe deeply, it activates our parasympathetic nervous system which makes it easier for the body to relax. It can help to reduce inner tensions and allow you to be more present with what is going on in the here and now.

This Too Shall Pass

Finally, It is also important to acknowledge that this too shall pass. What is going on is not a forever thing. Sometimes recognizing there will be an end to what is happening can help relieve anxiety and reduce the worry you may be experiencing.

Bottom line, be kind to yourself. Be loving to yourself. And be open to the blessings that can and will come to you in the future.
