The important role that your front door, bedroom and kitchen play in your life when it comes to good health, good relationships and wealth cannot be overstated. These three areas of your home, according to Feng Shui principles, form the foundation for maintaining good health, improving wealth and creating a prosperous future.

Covered in a previous article were the Feng Shui principles to use for your front door. This article, the second of three, will focus on your bedroom – your bed, your relationships, your health and vitality and the empowering of your future. Your bed’s location, care and cleanliness will either empower you or stand in the way.

Your bed represents rest, relaxation, being centered and balanced, while also impacting your health and vitality, relationships and sexuality. The location of your bed determines how much personal control you have, whether you will rest well and wake up refreshed and relaxed, as well as personal safety. The front door may rule the outside of your house, but the interior of your home is all about the bedroom.

Bedroom Strategies for Success

Because the location of your bed is exceedingly important, many argue that you need to find your best direction number first, and position your bed accordingly. Not so - this is where safety trumps best direction numbers. Note - everyone has a Feng Shui best direction number, actually a grouping of four numbers which can be determined by a formula or visiting a website like energy-by-design where you can use the best direction number calculator.

Ideal Bed Placement - The best location for your bed is where you are the safest, which is farthest from the door. This provides the best protection from possible intruders and allows you to have the least amount of outside energy flowing over your body, which inhibits rest. The bed placement needs to provide: security by being against a back wall, a commanding view and control of the room’s entrance, and be unobstructed on all sides. Also, avoid placing the bed between active doorways such as the entrance to the bedroom and the entrance to the bathroom. This causes a constant flow of energy over your body all night preventing deep sleep and refreshing rest.

If placement far from the door is impossible, hang a mirror on a wall opposite the door so the door entrance is completely visible to you from bed to create a safer environment. You can also hang a 25mm multi-faceted round crystal over the doorway to disburse any negative energy. If you cannot avoid the bed placement between two active doorways, always sleep with both doors closed.

Empowerment – Once you have the strongest placement of your bed, you are empowering control of your life. Additional empowerment comes from having the bed firmly attached to a headboard that is placed tightly against the wall. A bed without a headboard is ungrounded, allowing restful energy and connections to relationships slip right off the bed like satin sheets.

Remember, it is your bed and headboard that provides strength, connection and centeredness with the way it is positioned in the room. Beds without a solid wall behind them leave you sleeping in a vulnerable unsafe location with no grounding to reality.

• Do use a solid headboard properly connected to your bed with no holes and no bars to give you maximum connections, rest and grounding
• Do use a firm solid mattress, the best you can afford – anything less is unstable and does not support you physically, your life goals, relationships and vitality
• Do sleep on a bed up off of the floor – futons and mattresses on the floor represent a lower station in life and exposed to physical and unsanitary hazards, beds that are too high make it difficult to find a partner or good relationships
• Do keep the area underneath your bed clutter-free to ensure proper rest and re-energizing while asleep – store nothing under your bed to prevent negative energy from below affect you while sleeping
• Do remove all electronic equipment from your bedroom to eliminate excess sleep-preventing energy from permeating your body at night or keep it behind closed doors or covered at night
• Do paint overhead beams or trayed ceilings the same color as the remainder of the ceiling to prevent negative energy from above dropping down on you while sleeping

Linens matter – While linens aren’t quite in the same category as the location of the bed they do make a difference in the way you sleep and in the impact they have on your relationships. Sheets are a great way to shift energy in your life through the use of color and texture. As in the case of the mattress, buy the best sheets you can afford; after all you spend approximately one-third of every day of your life wrapped up in them. They should nurture you through touch and sight.

• Do use green sheets if health and vitality are a priority
• Do use pink or peach sheets for nurturing love and relationships
• Do use ivory or cream instead of white to give you a touch of nurturing energy instead of the high yang sterile unfriendly energy (White, while loved by many, provides antiseptic, lifeless untouchable energy)
• Do use earth tones or neutrals like khaki or beige to get more grounded and centered
• Do use blue for calming nerves if you are under a lot of stress; although this should be used only for limited time periods as it can also be a bit depressing over the long term
• Do use the above colors in pastel shades to derive the maximum amount of rest, relaxation and relationship connections

The rules of bedroom Feng Shui are simple – so easy that you can do it today. Place your bed as far away from the door as possible making sure that you can comfortably walk around it. Then make sure you are not in an energy highway between two doors and have removed all electronic equipment - then use wonderful linens to bathe yourself in rest and relaxation.
