Description: | Mel Judah has been one of my favorite tournament players since I started playing tournaments. He is a great player, but more important than that, he is one of the nicest players (at least toward me). Mel first learned to play poker from his father when he was fourteen. He learned many lessons, but the one that he considers most important is to lose the minimum and win the maximum. He takes the lessons he has learned to the tournament trail where he concentrates more on the major events. His favorite tournament is the World Series because the best players in the world are there not to mention that he has had great success there, especially in Seven Card Stud. He has two World Series bracelets, both in Seven Card Stud, in 1989 and 1997. He missed getting his third bracelet in 2003 when he came in second to Men "The Master" Nguyen. Mel also came in third in 2000 and fifth in 2002. Apart from his Stud success, he placed third in the No Limit Holdem main event in 1997, the year Stu Unger won his third title. There is no doubt that his best results have been Seven Card Stud, but he has won a tournament in every type of poker game. He gained a lot of attention from his win at the Bicycle Casino World Poker Tour event. The first time I saw him after that event, I congratulated him and then sat down with him for about an hour and talked poker. He brought up an issue that many professional poker players have talked about. The World Poker Tour banned deal making from the tournament. (More accurately, the credit cards for casino hosting events would be banning deals at the insistence of the World Poker Tour.) Many players do not think the they have a right to demand this. Mel expressed the same thoughts. He said that until the World Poker Tour either allows sponsorships for the players or contributes money to each event prize pool, they have no right to tell the players what they can do with their money. Mel Judah was born in Calcutta, India but now resides in London. He is married with two children. He used to be a ladies hairdresser, but now travels the tournament circuit. His favorite games to play are Omaha High-Low and Stud HiLo. He believes patience and changing gears are the key skills that make a great tournament player. Besides the World Poker Tour event at the Bicycle Casino and his World Series of Poker wins, his other accomplishments include a sixth place finish at the Bellagio Casino World Poker Tour event. He also has many first place finishes including Stud events at the L.A. Poker Classic and the Winning O' the Green, and the $3k buy-in Pot Limit Omaha event at the Mirage Poker Showdown. |
